Nutritional influence of ovine maternal colostrum on weight gain in newborn lambs

Colostrum is the first secretion of mammary gland and used as an essential food for newborns in hours life. The objective this work to evaluate nutritional quality colostrum postpartum period, its variation over 72 influence on lamb weight gain. experiment was carried out using 38 crossbred ewes from Texel Suffolk their respective lambs, evaluating values protein, fat, lactose, total solids, salts, density freezing point. On day, mean 8.59%, 10.53%, 12.93%, 23.13%, 1.90%, 1071.72 g/dL -2.28ºC were found, respectively. second day it showed 6.08%, 9.39%, 9.64%, 16.13%, 1.32%, 1050.58g/dL -1.29ºC third 4.92%, 8.37%, 7.69%, 13.08%, 1.06%, 1043.22 -0.93ºC. lambs had average gain 0.33 kg 24 life 0.32 following 48 hours. It concluded that proved be efficient verify way which neonates respond physiologically
